With all the free time I have recently, I’ve been able to flip through a variety of photography related books. I would recommend the following:

Understanding Exposure (Revised Edition). By Bryan Peterson.

It’s a nice and easy read for those just starting into photography. It explains all the basics and must knows about the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, as well as how to achieve desired exposures under various circumstances, such as back light, low light, rainy days and motions. What I also like most about this book is that all the pictures come with the focal length, shutter speed and aperture setting. A lot of photography books out there just stick an image in there and expect you to know exactly how it’s produced. This book might be slightly pricey if bought in Canada. But fairly cheap if ordered online from Amazon.com.

I’d also recommend two other photography magazines – Photography Monthly and Practical Photography. Both are UK photograph magazines. Both are good magazines and easy to read. Except that since they’re UK magazines, all the recommended photography locations are located in UK as well. But I guess if you ever decide to visit UK for a photo shoot you’d be well prepared.
